The port of Kimolos is situated in the town of Psathi, which is a very short distance away from the capital of Kimolos Town. From Kimolos ferry port you can take a minibus to the main town but it is easily reachable by foot too, taking roughly 20 minutes to walk from the port to the town. Around Psathi there are a few cafes and markets as well as several small amenities.
The name Kimolos comes from the word `Kimolia' which means `chalk' in Greek, relating to the stunning white cliffs around the island. Kimolos has some fantastic beaches with warm, golden sands and clear, blue seas that are home to the Monk Seal, a species of seal that has a large population on the island of which is possible to see on specialised boat trips around the Greek Mediterranean Sea.
The island is generally quiet as there is hardly any transport on the roads and no car rental company; so many visitors just get around by foot which is probably the easiest way to explore the island anyway due to its small size. As well as the beaches, other Kimolos attractions include the Castle of Kimolos, the Cave or Vromolimni and the hot wells of Prassa which are said to have certain healing powers...
