Ischia lies off the coast of Naples. The island is 10 km from east to west and 7 km north to south. It has a coastline of 34 km and covers an area of 46.3 sq km. It is the second port on the island and offers connections to Naples and the nearby city of Pozzuoli which is also in the Province of Naples. The island is famed for the legendary healing properties of its thermal springs and its beaches. The town of Ischia has two different centers: Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. Ischia Porto is the commercial center of the island and is named after the main port. Ischia Ponte is named for the area surrounding and including the footbridge that was constructed to connect the Castello Aragonese with the island. All Ischia ferries can be booked simply and easily on Ferrysavers.co.uk.

About Ischia Porto

Ischia is the largest island in the bay of Naples and although Capri is by far the most famous island in this region, many people consider Ischia to be more beautiful. The largest town in Ischia is also called Ischia. This can be initially confusing. In the town of Ischia, there are two different centres. These are Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. Ischia Porto is the region where the port is located, and the region itself, is, of course, named after the port. This area is the commercial centre of the island.

Ischia Town stretches along the north east coastline of the island. Ischia is a delightful and vivacious town. Multi-coloured houses stretch along the edge of a lake which was once a crater. This lake was converted into a safe harbour by Ferdinand II of the Bourbons by opening up one side to the sea. You will find lsh pine woods throughout the town that stretch down to the beaches.

The area of Ischia Ponte is renowned for its beaches, thermal springs, historical attractions and luxury hotels built on fantastic sites of stunning natural beauty.

    Winter break in ibiza
    • Denia to Ibiza with Balearia

Great trip. I paid €150 return, for myself and motorbike. Much cheaper than a return flight. Check in time is longer than I'd expected (90 minutes before departure) but not too much hanging around, vehicles are loaded efficiently. It's comfortable on board, there are enough seats, bars and toilets, it doesn't feel crowded. There's a decent self service restaurant, with 3 or 4 different main courses. I paid about €15 for 2 courses. Good food, although not 'fine dining' My only criticism is that the signage at both ports is minimal. If you're driving its not very clear where you should go, which is the right boat etc. (Ibiza is worse than denia) and this could be a bit stressful, especially if you were boarding in the dark and running late. But anyway - I really enjoyed my experience of the return trip from Denia to Ibiza.

    A nice experience
    • Ibiza to Barcelona with Trasmediterranea

It's a little bit more budget but still not a bad experience. The checking in at Ibiza can be confusing. The boarding of the ferry can be confusing otherwise all other aspects are fine. You can warm your food from the cafe in the microwaves provided.

Overall service good. Directions to the terminal wrong
    • Ibiza to Palma with Balearia

The evening Balearia ferry from Ibiza to Palma, Majorca was fine, and the reclining Salon Neptuno seat worth it. Check-in was swift. Refreshments and seating were available in the terminal, a large white marquee near the end of Carrer des Botafoc. Plenty of taxis were waiting in Palma. Note that the Balearia Ibiza to Palma ferry actually leaves from the East-side port area used by the cruise ships, not at a city-side quay as described.
