Northlink Ferries Freight Services:
NorthLink Ferries operates lifeline ferry services to the islands of Orkney and Shetland. Since July 2012 the service is operated by Serco Ltd on behalf of the Scottish Government.
NorthLink Ferries sails daily from Aberdeen to Lerwick with frequent calls at Kirkwall and from Scrabster on the north coast of Scotland to Stromness in Orkney. Serco operate three passenger vessels and two freight vessels on the Orkney & Shetland routes.
Nortlink Ferries Freight - Driver Information:
Once onboard drivers can take advantage of the facilities including comfortable lounges, restaurants, bars, sun decks and shops. A berth in a cabin is also included. Private cabins are available to book, subject to an additional charge.
To allow shipment, any commercial vehicle or trailer over 6m long must be equipped with suitable lashing points. Vehicles between 6 and 9m must have a minimum of 2 lashing points each side. Vehicles over 9m must have a minimum of 4 lashing points each side.
Travelling with a van?
With Northlink, all private use vans exceeding 3.5 tons must be booked as freight. If the vehicle is being used for commercial purposes you must book as freight, regardless of the van type.
