Eurotunnel Le Shuttle

Launched in 1994, the Eurotunnel is an excellent alternative way to take your car to France, using the Channel Tunnel's two double railway tunnels which have been dug beneath the sea bed in the English Channel. Eurotunnel has no fuel surcharges or luggage restrictions, and its services are unaffected by bad weather or high winds. As well as being frequent and reliable, Eurotunnel is also the fastest way across the Channel at just 35 minutes.

Boarding the Eurotunnel shuttle is easy, as you simply drive on to your carriage. You stay with your car for the short journey, either relaxing in your seats or getting out for a stroll around the carriage. At either end there are also terminal buildings, full of facilities and plenty of shops and places to eat.

Pets on board the Eurotunnel

You can book your cat or dog on board the Eurotunnel with Note that when returning to the UK pets are required to go to the Pet Control Building at the French terminal and that to take your pet to and from the UK to mainland Europe (excluding Ireland) you will need a pet passport.

Excellent service although we had booked on a later train we went through on earlier trains both ways.

    First time by Eurotunnel
    • Folkestone to Calais with EuroTunnel

Somewhat disappointing. Yes, very quick, but soulless and extremely hot in the carriages that day. My ratings of the on board staff and facilities are based on very little contact with anyone once you have checked in and been directed. All that is pretty efficient. The journey was around an hour late leaving and we spent a long time waiting to leave once we had been loaded. There were obviously issues that day. I doubt that the higher cost compared with the ferry is worth the shorter travel time especially now that most ferry crossings are down to 1.5 hours.

    OK out but terrible back!
    • Folkestone to Calais with EuroTunnel

The journey out was OK. Things ran to time and staff and facilities were OK. However, coming back was a very different story. An earlier train had been cancelled due to a car driver driving into a wc on the train. OK, not a EuroTunnel fault. However, we were left for seemingly ages in one car park after another with no information, no shade, no water and no organisation. People were trying to dodge in all over the place and some queues went through much quicker than others. Delay organisation was appalling. Eurotunnel has sufficient delays that it ought to have worked this out by now and given that about 30 per centof all our crossings over the years have been delayed or cancelled the service increasingly becomes less attractive.
